Throw down those books, leave the pencils at home, it’s time for Springfest. The votes were tallied and it’s official, Springfest is your pick for the best Northeastern event. So what is it that students like so much about Springfest? Maybe it’s the numerous activities offered, or possibly the live music, or wait, its probably the fact that you get all of this and more, for free.
This all day event, sponsored by the Council for University Programming, is an annual event that brings smiles to many faces.
“It was great because everyone’s out, it really brings the campus together,” said Sarah Righter, a third year student at NU.
The day kicked off at 11 a.m. with bungee ropes, a rock climbing wall and free food in Centennial Commons. Meanwhile in the freshman quad, many gathered to hear their favorite hip-hop and R’B groups.
By far, the main event of Springfest this year was the performance by Boston’s own Mighty Mighty Bosstones. The show, which started around 4:30 p.m., attracted a large crowd in Centennial Commons. Even though this year’s Springfest was greeted by chilly weather, students were able to keep warm with the friendly mosh-pit that was started in front of the band’s stage. Even without the waves, students were able to surf, crowd surf that is, in order to express their love for the day of music and festivities.
Springfest has been enjoyed in the past by many with performances from groups such as They Might Be Giants and most recently The Roots. This annual event is not going anywhere. Planning for next year’s festivities will begin sometime in the winter. If next year’s Springfest is anything like the year’s past, it will be attended by many and enjoyed by all.
