Crime Log: Oct. 12-17

October 20, 2011
A Northeastern University Division of Police Safety (NUPD) officer reported he recognized a known criminal on Forsyth Street. The man, Daniel Kilroy, 28, of Dorchester, was wanted in Waltham, Cambridge and Dorchester for theft. The officer arrested Kilroy and NUPD issued him a trespass warning.

A staff member reported he was approached by two young men near the footbridge between Camden and Gainsborough Streets. The young men tried unsuccessfully to take his cell phone, then ran away.

Northeastern joins supercomputer team

If a Northeastern student currently wanted to run an intensive climate change simulation, they might spend months or years behind their desktop. But starting in 2013, a supercomputer in Holyoke will allow researchers to complete the same process in just hours.

Controversial flags in International Village stolen

The controversial flags hung from the lobby ceiling in International Village as part of Northeastern Professor Thomas Starr’s “Exploded View” art piece were reported stolen Friday morning and officials said the university had nothing to do with the removal of the flags.

PikeFest organizers stung by SGA’s denial of activity funds, scheduling conflict

Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity leaders announced last week they will not have PikeFest this fall because they were denied funding by the Student Government Association (SGA) Finance Board. The Finance Board denied Pi Kappa Alpha’s fifth annual PikeFest request for $49,970 on July 14, citing severe unpreparedness and incompleteness in the group’s budget proposal. Members of the fraternity have placed much of the blame for this decision on SGA, saying they thought the organization was working against them this year.

Crime Log: Sept. 27-Oct. 3

Four staff members discovered several laptops and ceiling projectors were stolen from unlocked rooms overnight. The laptops were from a fourth floor classroom in Lake Hall and first floor graduate student office suites in Nightingale Hall. Two ceiling projectors were taken from conference rooms on the fourth and fifth floors of Holmes Hall. There was no evidence of forced entry.

Nutrition One to close Marino Center shop

Northeastern students said they are sad to see Nutrition One close as early as Friday after more than 14 years of selling health and nutrition products at the Huntington Avenue location.

This year’s freshmen ‘most academically advanced’ class
