Hollywood has a long history of keeping its problems with sexual misconduct hidden in the shadows. In more than one instance, stars have openly disregarded sexual assault allegations to instead show support for the accuser.
Netflix. Hulu. Prime. HBO Go. Amazon Fire Stick. Chromecast. Movie theaters, cinemas and drive-ins are dying. Each new streaming entertainment service is another stab wound to the cinema industry.
The first disaster to hit Puerto Rico was Hurricane Maria. One of the strongest storms to reach the island in years, it left many of the 3.4 million residents without power, without drinking water and for thousands, without a home.
The second disaster was President Donald J. Trump’s handling of the situation.
The biggest newsrooms in the country have shown that they are either unable or unwilling to increase their diversity, which makes it even more important that student newspapers increase their efforts to have more staff diversity.
As enticing as being the site of Amazon’s next headquarters may be, there are issues that must be addressed in order to make any future relationship with Amazon as effective as possible.
“There’s a lot of opportunity there, mind, don’t get me wrong. But it’s a big place and they have some strange ways for sure, some strange ways indeed.”
Now more than ever, there is a propensity toward the ideas of liberty, and it is so important that everyone hears it. As college students, we are on the battleground of ideas, where socialism is glorified. It is our role as young liberty-minded individuals to punch back and say that maybe we know how to live our lives better than the government.
