ResLife has every right to discipline their employees, and as rounds are necessary to ensure resident safety, these accusations should not be taken lightly. But due to the breadth of this problem, it is apparent that failures were institutional, and blame should not be placed solely on individual RAs.

Some attentive readers of The News may have noticed a striking lack of coverage of Northeastern’s Student Government Association (SGA) throughout the current academic year, and especially now, during direct elections for student body president and executive vice president. The News does not believe the actions of the SGA have substantially impacted the Northeastern community on a week-to-week, and therefore has decided to direct its resources towards covering other topics.
For as long as guns have been around, society has been debating the issue of gun control. Guns are weapons that make it easy for anyone to harm another, whether it be an animal, an intruder or an innocent. Guns are not only seen as weapons but as a right guaranteed to the American people by the Constitution, which seems to place guns on a pedestal; it is important not to forget that guns can and are meant to cause harm to whatever is in front of them, whether it is a target, a deer or a burglar.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has time and again used harsh rhetoric in contempt of Israel’s place in the world. In May 2011, Ahmadinejad compared the creation of Israel to the spread of cancer throughout the body, saying that this “regime infects any region” and “must be removed from the body.” It's quite clear what he wants. Ahmadinejad is specifically calling for the genocidal ousting of the State of Israel. Such hate speech cannot be tolerated by anyone.
I have been a member of the Student Government Association (SGA) for the past four years, and on the Executive Board for two terms in the roles of Executive Vice President (EVP) and Vice President for Student Services. Therefore, I have an understanding of how SGA currently operates as well as what it takes to successfully serve the student body. Based on my experiences both in and outside of SGA, I firmly believe that Mary Corrado and Zach Shaw are the best candidates to serve in these roles for the upcoming year.
Last week, Boston Cab Dispatch, one of the city’s largest taxi companies, filed a lawsuit against the makers of the smartphone app Uber, claiming it was essentially operating a livery service beyond city regulations, creating unfair competition. This is not the first legal hurdle Uber has faced; the city of Cambridge has openly battled with the company, suing to overturn a state ruling last summer that approved of the app’s use of GPS technology to track fares. Similar battles have been taking place across the nation.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned in journalism school at Northeastern is never to ignore a phone call. It could be a source reaching out to me or an editor with a job offer or any number of other things that will keep my career rolling forward. But last night when I got two calls back-to-back from 617-373-3760, a number I didn’t have programmed into my phone, I let it ring.
Unlike that of other colleges and universities, the goal of the Northeastern Senior Gift Drive is not to raise funds to erect a new monument, statue or plaque on campus to commemorate the class of 2013. At Northeastern, we are encouraged to give to what we love, whether that’s our student organization, fraternity/sorority, club sport, etc. – we choose!
