Conference play continued to treat the Northeastern (4-18) women’s basketball team poorly, as losses to the University of Delaware (12-11) on Thursday and Towson University (10-14) on Sunday extended the Huskies losing streak to seven games.
Basketball is a team sport. For the first time in recent history, the NBA standings are beginning to reflect that sentiment. The season is a little past the midway point, and we are heading into the All-Star break this weekend. We have teams without superstars pulling away from the pack, other teams with big names who are underperforming and teams who are purposely losing to improve their odds when it comes to the draft lottery in May.
Northeastern University (NU) women’s hockey faced Providence College last Friday. At the end of regulation, the teams were tied at 1-1. NU came out with a victory over Providence in overtime making the final score 2-1. The team then took on Boston University (BU) in the consolation game of the 2015 Beanpot on Tuesday. Despite the women’s best efforts, Northeastern lost to BU by a final score of 3-1.
With the snow blanketing the Boston area, the Northeastern track and field team made the short trek across town to compete in the John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University.
The Northeastern women’s hockey team picked up a big win against University of Vermont (UVM) last Friday with a final score of 4-3. However, the team couldn’t keep up in the 2015 Beanpot semifinals against undefeated Boston College (BC) on Tuesday night in Cambridge. BC came out on top 3-1.
It has been quite a turnaround.
The Northeastern University men’s ice hockey team started off the 2014-2015 season 0-8-1, the worst start in program history. Since a 5-3 loss to the University of New Hampshire (UNH) on Nov. 14, the Huskies have gone 10-3-3 and propelled themselves back into the thick of the Hockey East race.
The Northeastern men’s hockey team upset the five-time defending champion Boston College (BC) Eagles in the semifinals of the 2015 Beanpot at the TD Garden by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday night. The Huskies will advance to their third consecutive Beanpot finals where they will face the Boston University (BU) Terriers who came off of a double-overtime win against Harvard University in their Beanpot matchup.
The Northeastern (NU) women’s basketball team returned to the Cabot Center for two matchups this week following a three-game road trip. The Huskies (4-16) hoped to return to winning form, but lost both games against Hofstra University and the College of William & Mary with the latter being a double-overtime thriller.
Super Bowl XLIX is in three days. We have the loud-mouth, brash and reigning Super Bowl champs from the NFC, the Seattle Seahawks. Then there’s the tight-lipped, model franchise from the AFC in the New England Patriots.
Another week saw the Northeastern women’s basketball team (4-14) struggle in close games, losing back-to-back contests by less than five points each against the Towson University Tigers (8-12) and Elon University Phoenix (12-7).
