Northeastern’s men’s hockey team pulled off two dramatic wins on home ice against the University of Notre Dame this weekend. The Huskies picked up four points in the standings as they defeated the Fighting Irish 3-2 on Friday, Jan. 23 and 4-2 on Saturday, Jan. 24.
Last week was a roller-coaster ride for the Northeastern men’s basketball team. After a commanding 82-59 thumping of James Madison University (JMU) at Matthews Arena on Thursday, the Huskies (14-7) suffered a road loss to the College of William & Mary on Saturday, falling 78-62.
Honoring the late Joe Donahue, a Northeastern Hall of Fame student-athlete and coach, the Huskies hosted the Joe Donahue Games at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College. The men earned 166 points for first place and the women placed fifth with 68.83 points on Jan. 23.
The momentum for Northeastern women’s swimming and diving team continued as the Huskies won its second team meet this season at the 2015 Dartmouth Invitational.
The Northeastern swimming and diving team cruised to a victory against the University of Vermont (UVM) on Saturday for Senior Day, defeating the Catamounts 175-117.
After playing 12 of its first 16 contests on the road, the Northeastern men’s basketball team settled down this week for the first three games of a four-game homestand. The Huskies (13-6) played well at Matthews Arena, defeating Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rivals Hofstra University and the College of Charleston before falling to non-conference foe University of Detroit Mercy. Junior guard David Walker led the Huskies in scoring during the stretch, averaging 19 points per contest over the triplet of games.
Northeastern junior captain and 2014 United States Olympian Kendall Coyne led the Huskies into battle against Boston University’s (BU) senior captain and 2014 Canadian Olympian Marie-Philip Poulin on Sunday afternoon. Coyne and Poulin each played exceptionally well for their teams in BU’s 4-3 win at Matthews Arena.
The Northeastern Huskies had a strong weekend in Burlington, defeating the 15-6-2 University of Vermont (UVM) Catamounts 4-1 on Friday, and battling their way to a 2-2 tie on Saturday.

The Northeastern track and field team got back on the track for the first time in 2015 at a multi-day meet at Harvard University this weekend. The Huskies competed for the first time in over a month against Harvard, Cornell and Brown Universities, Army and University of Massachusetts (UMass) Amherst at the Beantown Challenge.
Northeastern’s women’s basketball team was plagued by inconsistency last week. The Huskies managed a victory over the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) only to lose to the College of Charleston two days later.
Junior forward Kevin Roy has been dazzling ice arenas with his goal-scoring capabilities since he was in high school. Roy, who just celebrated his 100th goal as a Northeastern Husky, first became notable when a video of him in a shootout competition at age 13 gained traction online.
