Pusica led Northeastern on a dominant, 20-4 run early in the first half, staking themselves to a 32-11 lead. Harvard had missed eight consecutive shots at that point, and the Crimson were visibly frustrated on the court. Northeastern was 7-14 from three in the half, and outscored Harvard in the paint.
Northeastern men’s ice hockey made a 2-1 comeback against the University of Vermont at Matthews Arena Friday night, followed by a home game loss against local rivals Boston College on Saturday.
Both originally from Zimbabwe, their bond began two years before they become teammates at Northeastern. Muhlauri came to the United States in 2011 and attended Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire, while Mpofu arrived in 2012 and went to Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Massachusetts.
Going on a tear of 16 straight wins and ranking up to the league’s best defense wasn’t exactly what the analysts were predicting after the nightmare start to the league. Not even the Boston faithful could’ve imagined such a start.
“This was a big game, especially since it’s a league game,” head coach Dave Flint said after the game. “[Maine] is a tough opponent for us, they’ve got a lot of skill and a great goalie.”
The Huskies (17-13, 10-6 CAA) had about a week to rest and recover after a challenging end to the regular season. The team came out looking refreshed and well-prepared for the CAA tournament, which was hosted by James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
The Stanford game goes down as an “L,” both Bill Coen and Donnell Gresham Jr. said, but there are positives to take out of it as the team tries to find their identity moving toward conference play.
The Curry Student Center Ballroom was teeming with Northeastern alumni exchanging pleasantries and congratulatory pats on the back as they gathered to celebrate the Northeastern University Varsity Club Hall of Fame Induction Thursday night.
According to a statement issued by members of the student section, known as the DogHouse, a student filed a report with Northeastern’s Office for University Equity and Compliance after they were offended by alleged slurs on the fan section’s official chant sheet.
With a hefty lead going into the final period, it seemed that the game was decided — the Huskies were going to cruise to an easy victory. All was well in Cabot Center. However, in the fourth quarter, the Friars flipped the script on the Huskies and took over the game.
Second-year Louiza Wise led the way for the women, finishing in 47th place with a time of 22:47. Fourth-year Brooke Wojeski finished next in 94th place with a time of 23:25. Fourth-year Kerri Ruffo, third-year Camila Cortina and first-year Grace Bugara followed with times of 23:44, 24:09 and 24:54.
