Review: The Black Keys’ “Turn Blue”

June 6, 2014
by Nick Marini The Black Keys help keep rock in the mainstream - as the most popular North American rock band currently making music, they put blues rock, yes blues rock, on many radio stations, in a great number of television commercials and stuck in the heads of music listeners everywhere.

Letter: Need More Education on Sikh Religion

June 4, 2014
I am a Sikh. My faith – which stems from India – is acknowledged as one of the world’s major religions (there are 23.8 million Sikhs and only 13.4 million Jews). We stand out because baptized, male Sikhs wear turbans, beards and uncut hair as a sign of their faith. If you see a man on the street with a turban and beard anywhere in the USA, it’s almost certain that he is a Sikh.

Review: A Million Ways to Die in the West delivers killer comedy

Review: A Million Ways to Die in the West delivers killer comedy

May 30, 2014
With crude humor, spontaneously graphic death scenes and even a short drug-induced musical number, “A Million Ways to Die in the West” was everything we expected from writer, director and star Seth MacFarlane. From the not-so-subtle sexual innuendos to the quick dialogue littered with expletives, the movie was filled with MacFarlane’s trademarks, even including a smattering of Hollywood references to both the actors’ and the director’s previous works.

Magic Man shines at pre-Boston Calling performance

Magic Man shines at pre-Boston Calling performance

May 23, 2014
Before their show, Magic Man joked that they were happy someone was interviewing them so they knew there would be at least one person in the crowd. This couldn’t be further from the truth as a packed room cheered on the Boston-based group, but it’s this kind of self-deprecating humor and underestimation of their own success that makes the band just so magical.

Martin Scorsese will be busy, we will be watching

May 22, 2014

by Nick Marini, social media manager Martin Scorsese is largely responsible for my love of movies. “The Departed” got the ball rolling for me back in 2006. It was a movie that showed me what they could really do for an audience, and I've never looked at them the same since....
