Mayor Martin J. Walsh announced Tuesday the launch of Carbon Free Boston, a plan for the city to be carbon neutral by 2050. On Wednesday, the City Council voted unanimously to ban the use of plastic bags in stores. These two measures come as Northeastern students continue environmental activism years in progress.

It is unclear how much of the endowment is invested in EnCap or if the university currently has other offshore investments. These questions aren’t answered by the university’s statement. It is time the university takes seriously and openly addresses the requests of the activist groups on campus because, in the end, they were right about what the administration was hiding.
