In a foul-filled contest where tensions ran high, the Huskies failed to score and left Parsons Field for the last time this season. Hofstra’s early goal forced Northeastern to play catch up before ending the season in a 1-0 loss in their semifinal matchup on Sunday. Northeastern finished the year with an impressive CAA record of 7-2-0.
With Northeastern carrying a 6-2-0 CAA record, Phillips said she believes the players can get their winning streak and confidence back for playoffs. The Huskies are headed to the CAA semifinals, playing winners of the Oct. 26 round next Sunday, Oct. 28 at Parsons Field.
With a strong start against other conference teams, the Huskies hold level heads facing the rest of the CAA season. After another golden goal win, Goche said she’s glad to see their high level of play convert into goals and victories.
“As a group, whether it was brought upon by ourselves or some other circumstances, we definitely showed our resilience this year,” she said. “We never gave up. We had fun. I think in such a demanding season if you’re able to have fun while putting in the work, the difference will show. We’re certainly proud of the culture they’ve helped us create here, because without that, it’s simply not as enjoyable.”
Following a hard-fought draw against the Elon University Phoenix Oct. 8, the Northeastern University women’s soccer team returned home Thursday to kick off the final homestand of the season against first-year striker Kristen Desmond and the top-tier Hofstra University soccer team.
Despite outpacing the Wildcats with five more shots on target, the Huskies could not squeak anything past UNH keeper Mia Neas. They eventually lost on a pinball cross into the box that found senior forward Brooke Murphy, who tapped in the game-winner in the 81st minute.
