Finals, research papers and presentations are fast approaching, marking the end of Northeastern’s spring semester and the beginning of many freshmen students’ last summer at home. The summer includes sun, sand and, for many, a summer job.
“I don’t have a set plan right now [for a summer job], but I know I need at least one job for the summer to pay for all of my rent for next year,” said Meaghan Sterling, a freshman math major.
On-campus sources aid students in the entire job application process, whether a student is looking for a summer job or researching a career.
Northeastern’s Career Services offers a Career Resource Center students can use in order to research and find jobs or internships. The Career Resource Center is located in the Stearns Center and is open Monday, Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Besides on-campus sources, there are several Web sites that claim to help students with the task of finding a summer job. A+ Summer Jobs (www.aplus-summerjobs.com) offers a multitude of job options for students or recent graduates looking for a job for the summer months.
The Web site has employer information and job descriptions for some of the more unusual summer job opportunities available for students.
Cruise ships often employ students for the busy summer months, according to the Web site. Positions as waiters/waitresses, bartenders, stewards and beauticians are all offered on some of the world’s largest cruise lines.
Some students at Northeastern, however, aren’t ready to ship out to sea for summer work.
