Provost names interim SOTE dean
An interim dean for the newly created School of Technology Entrepreneurship (SOTE) has been named, according to a letter to the university community from Provost Ahmed Abdelal. Thomas Cullinane, a professor of mechanical and industrial engineering, began his new duties as dean July 1. A month into his job, Cullinane said he is in the process of putting together the curriculum and getting ready for the first course entitled, “The Languages of Technology in Business.” The course, taught by one designated business and one engineering professor, will be offered to freshmen in the spring of 2005. The course will be “team-taught” with the lecture workload divided between two professors, Cullinane said. The school will offer more courses gradually, hoping to offer up to six courses by 2006, he said. He said the emphasis of SOTE would be on interdisciplinary studies crossing the boundaries of all schools at Northeastern. Cullinane is in the process of determining where the courses will be held, depending on space availability. Cullinane has been at Northeastern since 1981, and has been an educator for 25 years.
