By vetoing the emergency contraception bill last week, Gov. Mitt Romney cleared up any remaining doubt about where he’s concerned about lives, and it isn’t in Massachusetts. The fact he’s more focused on running for president than running the Commonwealth is hardly news, but to veto a bill with such overwhelming support in both the public and the legislature is a new level of disrespect for the people who elected him. Having an unpopular opinion based on principle is one thing, but to blatantly use such an important issue as a political tool in whatever way best suits his needs is something else. When running for office in 2002, Romney responded on a Planned Parenthood questionnaire he would support increased access to emergency contraception. Apparently that was then, and this is now.
