The truth of the matter is this: During freshman year, a lot can go wrong. However, most of these problems have occurred to those who came before, and thus this handy Frequently Asked Questions guide can save you the embarrassment of a lost Husky Card or the confusion of wandering the tunnel system.
I’m having trouble hooking up the Internet in my dorm room. What do I do?
Call ResNet at 617-373-4357 (xHELP), or e-mail [email protected]. ResNet is specifically for residential network problems, including trouble connecting to the Internet, viruses, printer problems or other computer issues that pop up. Their help line will assist you with all your computer troubleshooting. Also, look out for the ResNet tables in the freshman quad during the first week of classes; ResNet members will be around to help you out.
I think I might have seen a mouse in the hallway! Who do I call?
First, make sure all the trash in your room and your neighbor’s room is cleared away. Most of the time, mice and other pests will only show up when the room is really dirty. Then place a work order at www.workreq.neu.edu or call 617-373-2754. You can also place work orders if something is broken in your room, if your room is too hot or too cold, or if your bed needs to be lofted or other furniture needs to be moved.
I lost my Husky Card. Where can I get a new one?
First, call the Customer Service Center at 617-373-2270 so they can deactivate your card. If you lose your card after business hours, call Northeastern Police at 617-373-2121 and they will deactivate your card. Then, go to the Customer Service Center, located in 120 Hayden Hall, where a replacement card can be made for $10.
It’s raining out, I don’t have an umbrella and I want to get to class without getting soaked! What can I do?
Northeastern has its own tunnel system connecting several academic buildings underground. The tunnels can be reached by going to the basement area of each building the tunnel connects with. While the tunnels are sometimes confusing, a color-coded system is used to sort out which building is which. Churchill Hall is marked by a red stripe, Dodge Hall is blue, Ell Hall (connecting to the Curry Student Center) is yellow, Forsyth Building is purple, Hayden Hall is yellow, Mugar Life Sciences Building is green, Richards Hall is blue, Snell Engineering Center is green and Snell Library is light blue.
I’m not feeling well, and my doctor is across the country. What do I do?
University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS) has moved to its new home in the Forsyth Building on Forsyth Street, near Shillman Hall. To make an appointment, call 617-373-2772.
I need to pick up a course description catalog and speak to someone about dropping a class. Where do I go?
The Registrar’s Office, like the Customer Service Center, is located at 120 Hayden Hall. Course catalogs can be obtained there. Students may register and drop classes in the office, but can also do so by logging onto myNEU and clicking on the “self-service” tab. Contact the Registrar’s Office by calling 617-373-2300. Course description catalogs are also available in PDF format on www.registrar.neu.edu.
My bike was stolen. Where do I go to report it?
The Northeastern Police Department is located in 100 Columbus Place at 716 Columbus Avenue. They can be reached at 617-373-2121, or, if there is an emergency, at 617-373-3333.
Where do I go to apply for a parking pass?
Go to the Cashier’s Office at 248 Richards Hall. Housing deposits and other payments can also be made here. Or, apply for a parking pass online at www.parking.neu.edu.
