After losing their winning streak Friday with a 3-1 loss to the SUNY, Albany Great Danes, the Northeastern Volleyball team snapped back Saturday and swept the Binghamton University Bearcats 3-0.
The Huskies’ record stands at 17-9 overall and 8-2 in the America East conference.
The Huskies regained momentum Saturday behind a solid performance from junior Brandie Genibrel. She hit .353 with nine kills and seven digs. Freshman Kira Batura also posted excellent nights. Batura had seven kills and eight digs, while Freshman Bree Peterson added six kills, 35 assists, and three blocks. The Huskies swept the 3-0 (30-25, 30-20, 30-22) for the second time this season.
“Our defense is at its best when we have Peterson, Batura and [Ashly] Adamczyk. They had an excellent night,” Northeastern coach Ken Nichols said.
The Great Danes, who have handed the Huskies their only two AE losses, took the first game ,30-20, before the Dogs rallied to take the second game, 30-18.
However, they were unable to hold off the Great Danes and dropped the next two games 30-14 and 30-18, losing the match, 3-1.
“We were still getting off the bus mentally and [Albany] had the home team advantage,” Nichols said.
Sophomore Whitney Turner led the offense with 14 kills and sophomore Ashley Reeves added 12 of her own. Peterson had another solid performance with 40 assists and 18 digs.
Northeastern returns home for their final home games of the season this weekend when they take on the University of New Hampshire Friday and the University of Maine Saturday, both at Solomon Court (7 p.m.)
