Alvin Carter, the culture and diversity chairman of the Council for University Programs (CUP), was upset he could not provide more money to those devastated by the Dec. 26, 2004 tsunami. He contemplated how he could raise more money for the relief efforts.
“This tsunami changed lives and stole hundreds and thousands,” Carter said.
With the help of some of the groups he works with in his small music management and production agency, 3Productions, Carter thought a benefit concert would be the best way to raise money.
“I pitched the concept to the [CUP]
executive board and there we have it,” Carter said.
The benefit concert will be held Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. in the Curry Student Center Ballroom. The concert will feature 6th Sense, Hunter Smith and Tides, which are all groups that agreed to play for free from Carter’s agency. One act is still to be announced.
