Contrary to popular belief, college fun doesn’t stop entirely once you graduate and enter the real world. In fact, it continues for decades to come, if our alumni office has anything to do with it. The Office of Alumni Relations, which puts together dozens of alumni events each year, continued its year of events last Thursday at the Northeastern Alumni’s 10th Annual NU Night at the Pops. The event, which took place at none other than Symphony Hall, was open to all Northeastern alumni, including family and friends, as well as students and faculty of the university.
The annual concert event, which previously took place during graduation week, was conducted by fan favorite Keith Lockhart. Lockhart addressed the mainly Husky crowd and spoke about the honorary degree he received from Northeastern in 1998 with the likes of Mikhail Gorbachev. Lockhart also pointed out that his father, Newton Lockhart, graduated from the university in 1954 with a degree in engineering.
According to Assistant Director at the Office of Alumni Relations Amy Linnell, all alumni were invited to attend, but cards were sent out to those who have attended recent alumni events, active members of groups affiliated with the university, and those who have donated money. An announcement was also placed in the Northeastern Magazine for those who didn’t receive a card in the mail.
Among the alumni and their family and friends, President Richard Freeland was also in attendance and was recognized by Lockhart in between musical pieces.
“Northeastern Night at Pops is one of our most joyous community traditions and a wonderful opportunity for alumni to reconnect with their alma mater and with each other,” Freeland said in an e-mail. “This is an occasion we all look forward to each year.
