With the women’s volleyball season underway, senior setter Britney Brown leads the Huskies’ attack. In the past five games, Brown recorded 114 assists, 46 kills and 40 digs. Brown’s efforts have earned her Huntington News Player of the Week honors.
Not only does Brown consistently lead the box score, but she also leads the team as one of three captains. She shares the position with seniors and middle hitters Caitlin Tittl and Jillian Robinson.
While Brown and the Huskies are focused on hosting the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament and taking home the title, she said she also has her sights set on some personal goals.
“I have a certain target I want to reach in the weight room and with my vertical, but I also want to be a leader and a captain that people can rely on,” Brown said.
The Edwards, Colo., native has been playing volleyball since she was in the fourth grade. She also participated in golf and tennis at Battle Mountain High School, but said she knew that she had to focus on just one sport in order to be recruited to play in college.
“When I was younger I actually wanted to be a tennis player, and then I got into golf because my brother played and my dad played,” Brown said. “I ended up going to Denver, Colo., to play club volleyball, which was about a two-hour drive a couple of times a week. When options for volleyball in college came up, I just stuck with it.”
Brown majors in business and said she would like to pursue a career as an event coordinator. She hopes to work on weddings as well as corporate events, like parties and fundraisers for businesses. She said she plans on doing her next co-op with a company that works mostly with weddings. As for her volleyball career, she said she is far from finished.
“I would like to continue with volleyball after college, possibly playing beach volleyball or coaching,” said Brown. “Going abroad is a possibility as well, but I will probably go home for a year or so to train and maybe get into coaching.”
When she is not practicing in the gym or studying, Brown said she likes to spend time hanging out with her friends and watching movies. She also enjoys making crafty things for her teammates.
“I am kind of a homebody,” Brown said with a laugh. “If I had more time I would want to do more traveling around Boston, but I just don’t right now. That’s what the spring is for.”
Brown and the Huskies look to boost their record as they travel to South Orange, N.J. to participate in the Seton Hall Invitational this Friday.
