After reading the Jan. 20 issue of The Huntington News, I was incredibly frustrated by the Crime Log Entry of the Week. A 19-year-old, who had been drinking, was taken to the hospital for a non-alcohol related injury.
According to the Crime Log entry, “She was not reported to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution (OSCCR) because there were no indications that alcohol played a role in the accident.”
Why is it that an underage student who has admitted to drinking (she ran away from the hospital so she wouldn’t get into trouble) is not reported to OSCCR? This makes no sense and I would like some clarification.
My theory is that she was not reported because she is an athlete. No one should get special treatment, regardless of his or her extracurricular activities. If the university knows an underage student was consuming alcohol, the student should be reported to OSCCR in all circumstances or no circumstances. No one should get special treatment. So how can this be explained, Northeastern?
