At approximately 1 p.m. every day, groups of students gather around a small, white shack where sweet and salty smells are emanating, and all have the look of well-fed satisfaction on their faces. With this phenomenon occurring on a daily basis, it is no surprise that Chicken Lou’s was voted best eatery on campus for the 12th consecutive year. Runners up included Boloco, Panera and Qdoba, all of which were so highly regarded among students that the vote was incredibly close, but none could contend with the popularity of Chicken Lou’s.
Chicken Lou’s opened 21 years ago in 1980 and has maintained its family-oriented business with a love of hearty food and the hundreds of students that gather around the tiny eatery everyday. Owner of Chicken Lou’s, Denise Styffe, estimated that an average of 350 students grab breakfast and lunch there daily, for which they pay around six dollars, including fries and a drink. Freshman Ingy Jabri vouches for the “TKO” (Total Knockout), describing it as “a cheesy-saucey mess from heaven.”
Sophomore Engineering major Ahmed Zamelli said, “Chicken Lou’s is perfect for hurried, on-the-go students who need a cheap, delicious meal to keep them going for the rest of the day.”
Styffie is a good-humored, caring woman who treats kids as though they were her own, ensuring they’re dressed warmly and are on time to all their classes.
So with great food, service and an ideal location, Chicken Lou’s has earned the title of Best Eatery on Campus.
