Northeastern ROTC wins Army award
The US Army’s Cadet Command awarded Northeastern’s Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program the MacArthur Award this week. The award is based on the ideals of “duty, honor and country,” as well as the cadets’ achievements, performance and retention rate. The Army gave the award to eight schools, and Northeastern was recognized as the best of the second brigade, which includes the 41 senior Army ROTC programs in the Northeast.

Debate Society wins ZipCar competition
ZipCar Inc. and Ford Motors Co. awarded Northeastern’s Debate Society $5,500 in Zipcar credit as part of their “Students with Drive” competition. The students plan to use the prize to help them travel to debates along the East Coast. The debate team won the academic category and will be entered in the Winner’s Circle portion of the competition to win $5,000 more in ZipCar credits, $10,000 cash for the student organization and $10,000 cash for the university.

NEXPO showcases student entrepreneurship
IDEA, Northeastern’s Inter-Disciplinary Entrepreneurship Accelerator, an organization that helps entrepreneurial students develop their business ideas, is hosting NEXPO, the Northeastern Entrepreneurship Expo, Wednesday in the Curry Student Center 7 to 9 p.m. The event will serve as a chance to meet and network with fellow entrepreneurs.

Teach-in will educate on rape culture
Northeastern faculty, students and staff will host a Rape Culture Teach-In to explore what rape culture actually is and how it can be reversed. The meeting will be held in Room 19 of International Village from 6 to 8 p.m. and is sponsored by the Social Justice Resource Center, Human Services, Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Department, Progressive Student Alliance and NU Students for Choice. Anna Siembor, a member of Knockout Barstool, the campus group that protested the Barstool Sports Blackout Party last week, is scheduled to take part in a panel discussion on the issues and said the goal of the event is to include a variety of people to create an academic dialogue around the issue of rape culture. “Hopefully we can create a multifaceted view of what’s going on,” Siembor said.
