Rebecca’s Café is now expanding its hours and will remain open as a study lounge for students, Sunday-Thursday from 5 to 11 p.m.
Though the space itself will remain open into the night, the kitchen at Rebecca’s will still have the same hours of operation (7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday-Friday).
The decision to utilize Rebecca’s, located in Churchill Hall, as both a dining hall and a study space was made by both university officials and students.
“Last year, the Student Government Association and Graduate Student Government Association identified study space as one of their priorities to look at for the upcoming year,” Marina Macomber, assistant vice president of student and administrative services and student affairs, said. “We thought outside the box a little bit and looked for spaces on campus we were able to free up or make available for study space.”
Rebecca’s is centrally located on campus and its proximity to Snell Library could make finding a place to study easier during what Macomber described as the “peak period” of the day.
“I think it’s a good idea,” sophomore physical therapy major Alyssa Lindau said. “The library gets crowded sometimes, and Rebecca’s is cool.”
Kenny McNeill, a freshman engineering major, disagreed.
“Keep the food coming. It’s a nice place, but I go to the library to study,” McNeill said. “I go to Rebecca’s to eat.”
