On the men’s side, junior Adrian Li marked a successful day by sweeping the high jump (1.99 meters) and long jump (6.94 meters). Senior teammates Bamidele Faboyede in the weight throw (16.7 meters) and Nate Hunter in the shot put (18.26 meters) also captured first place. Sophomore Pablo Rodriguez finished first in the pole vault (4.65 meters) followed closely behind in second by senior Jack Sherman (4.5 meters).
On the women’s side, sophomore Althea Charles took first in both the shot put (13.36 meters) and weight throw (17.76 meters). In the pole vault, senior Olivia Kalinowska (3.6 meters) and junior Kristen Hafford (3.45 meters) had a one-two finish. Junior Brittany Moriarty won the 1000-meter run (2:57.14) while Porshe Giddings finished first in the 60-meter dash (7.61 seconds).
Saturday’s meet was run on a flat, slow track that was not ideal for times, head coach Sherman Hart said. The teams were also without some key competitors including sprinter and jumper Consandria Walker. Despite this, Hart said he was pleased with what he saw.
Hart said his athletes were a little rusty this week but were most concerned with gearing up for next week’s New England Championship, which has qualifying standards, at Boston University.
‘I just wanted to get the team tuned up for next week,’ Hart said. ‘I thought that we ran fairly well.’
The Huskies’ season is nearing the middle of its schedule with championship meets taking place for the next several weeks before taking its competition outdoors in mid-March. This week’s New England Championship will take place Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m.
