If you have any interest in fashion at all and are a Northeastern student, you’ll be happy to hear about our university’s premier fashion organization’s name change from Haute Fashion to Northeastern University’s Fashion & Retail Society. We’re extremely excited to announce our new name that we believe reflects what our club has evolved to today.
Since its founding in 2008, the Fashion & Retail Society has grown tremendously both in numbers and depth. Rather than being a group of students who are simply interested in clothes, our organization is full of members who are eager to learn more about the industry from all aspects, whether it’s journalism, production, business, designing or public relations. Maybe they aren’t sure if they want to pursue fashion as a career just yet and that’s fine, but they, at least, have a space to explore an interest.
We send writers and photographers to Boston Fashion Week, publicize internship and volunteer opportunities, and host an annual fashion show put together by our members’ hard work. We’re also able to give students the chance to model, design and plan for the show. We bring in speakers ranging from local designers who have built their companies from the ground up to entrepreneurs in the industry to fellow students who have completed co-ops at fashion companies.
With these opportunities and more, our aim is to prepare members for a career in fashion, no matter what particular field they are interested in. Whether they get their foot in the door by snagging an internship they heard about on our blog or by keeping in touch with a visiting speaker (or by snagging an internship with a visiting speaker), we hope they feel ready for what can be an extremely intimidating industry, despite the fact that Northeastern does not currently offer a major in fashion.
We believe that as a name, Fashion & Retail Society more accurately represents our mission and conveys our organization’s purpose on campus.
And, of course, with a new name comes brand new social media handles! If you have any questions, you can contact us at our new e-mail address, [email protected]. Make sure to follow us on Twitter and Pinterest at @NEUFashion and Instagram at @northeasternfashion.

–Stylishly yours, The Fashion & Retail Society Executive Board.
