JoJo, the pop and R&B singer-songwriter known for hits like ‘Too Little, Too Late’ and ‘Leave (Get Out),’ has committed to attending Northeastern as a freshman this fall, according to her MySpace blog.
‘After much consideration and research, I have decided that Northeastern University is the place for me!’ the singer, who was raised in Foxborough, wrote in a blog post yesterday. ‘In the past week I’ve taken tours and met with students and professors of other Boston based schools, and now that the time to commit has come, I’m happy with the idea of being a student at Northeastern.’
JoJo, whose full name is Joanna No’euml;lle Blagden Levesque, is not the only high school senior with a connection to fame who has shown interest in becoming a Husky this year. Women’s soccer coach Ed Matz said Samaria Smith, daughter of rapper LL Cool J, toured campus with her father last month and met with assistant women’s soccer coach Kelly Desmond.
Matz said Smith is interested in attending a college where she can play soccer. While she has not committed to Northeastern and is considering at least one other school, Matz said, the team is currently recruiting her ‘a little bit.’
‘It’s still in the feeling-out process,’ he said.
Neither Levesque nor Smith could be reached for comment today, and Vice President of Marketing and Communications Mike Armini could not immediately confirm Levesque’s enrollment.
However, according to her MySpace blog, Levesque is interested in dual-majoring in anthroplogy and international affairs. She said she will continue to work on her upcoming album, Blackground, while attending Northeastern.
