BrowZine is a brand new app that enables students to browse, read, search and monitor Snell Library’s academic journals. The app provides simple access to scholarly articles, journals and research papers across a vast array of disciplines, without having to print out mammoth chunks of paper or lugging around laptops all day.
“I could see myself using the app,” shared Thomas Minieri, a junior majoring in architecture. Minieri added that he would most likely “use it on his iPad.”
“I would absolutely use the app,” Vincensa Mucag, a senior behavioral neuroscience student, said. Mucag added that her “science classes require references to research” which is where BrowZine can play a significant role.
Jen Anderle, the Acting Communications Officer at the library, and Joe Devanna, the E-Resources Technology Coordinator at Snell Library, are the driving forces behind the implementation of BrowZine. The app was designed by a company named Third Iron, LLC.
“Whenever the library is able to support the research that students need to achieve, they look for the best ways to do so. So BrowZine really met student need which was that students need more convenient ways to access scholarly and peer-reviewed journals and articles,” Anderle said.
BrowZine is also mobile, allowing students to download it on their phones, including both iOS and Android devices and Kindle.
“Students can read their saved articles on the T, even when they don’t have Wi-Fi, it just takes your research off of your laptop, out of the library, and makes it mobile,” Anderle said. “So that way people can really access these really rich articles whenever they would like.”
The app is free of cost, and once downloaded can be accessed through Northeastern credentials. BrowZine is now out and available to students.
“We just want to make their lives easier and this app actually answers a lot of their challenges,” Anderle said.
