On behalf of Boston’s Weekly Dig, one of the most well-loved and well-respected publications in the entire Commonwealth, I’d like to register my horror at the shoddy treatment we were recently given in the pages of this newspaper (“Weekly Dig names NU biggest rioters”).
Reporter Danielle Tarloff started off on the wrong foot by overturning and setting fire to journalism 101 by failing to seek comment from anyone at the Dig for this story. And those she did solicit quotes from proved to be extremely dubious. Particularly Communications Director Fred McGrail, whose take on the matter (“It’s not a publication to take seriously nor does it expect to be taken seriously”) suggests he is unfit to work in an institution dedicated to shaping young minds. Mr. McGrail is urged to inquire whether Tom Delay is seeking a new press secretary–a job he is certainly better suited for than this.
In conclusion, it was a horrendously biased piece of reportage, and you should all be ashamed–if indeed you have the capacity for shame. Which you do not. I know a man on Mission Hill who will attest to that.
Anyone who’d like to discuss this face to face is welcome to drop by my office at 126 Brookline Ave. by Fenway. Call 617.536.5390 to make an appointment.
