Northeastern football’s all-time leading scorer is looking to bring just as much devastation to the Arena Football League (AFL) as he did while playing at Parsons Field.
Miro Kesic, who scored 306 points in his four-year career as a Husky, was signed by the Columbus Destroyers of the AFL on Jan. 6.
“It’s a great opportunity for me,” said Kesic, a 2005 graduate with a mechanical engineering degree. “It’s rare to come straight out of college and start working on a professional level. It will help me prepare for the next level, which is hopefully the NFL.”
Kesic is the all-time leader for field goals made (48), consecutive extra points (57) and was the first NU kicker to earn All-Atlantic-10 honors.
“He’s not your typical kicker,” said current coach Rocky Hager, who mentored Kesic in his junior and senior seasons. “He has the intensity of a linebacker and he was a joy to coach. He was very well-liked among his teammates and he was a very special part of our program. I will miss him.”
Kesic is the lone kicker on the Destroyers roster, and one of only two Huskies playing in the AFL. The other, former free safety T.J. Hill, who graduated in 2001, now plays wide receiver for the Las Vegas Gladiators. Kesic will kick off his AFL career on Jan. 29 at 3 p.m. when his Destroyers host the Grand Rapids Rampage. The now-professional player still points to his time at Northeastern as vital to his development.
“Being a four-year starter at Northeastern really helped me. It gave me experience and put my name out there,” Kesic said. “I’ll always remember going to the playoffs and being a part of a new school and meeting new friends, teammate and coaches.”
