The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) voted unanimously last week to increase the fare for public transportation throughout the city.
Under the new changes, in January the T will now cost $1.70, up from $1.25, and bus fares will rise from $.90 to $1.25. Riders who opt to pay in cash rather than with the new “Charlie Card” and “Charlie Ticket” systems will be hit harder, to the tune of $2 to ride the T and $1.50 to ride the bus.
For some riders, like freshman undecided major Cassidy Carlson, the hike isn’t good news.
