A Northeastern student was the victim of an attempted unarmed robbery the night of Sept. 17, according to an email alert from the Northeastern University Police Department, or NUPD, sent the morning of Sept. 18.
According to the NUPD Timely Warning Notification sent to students on the Boston campus, which was delivered to inboxes 12.5 hours after the incident occurred, a male suspect approached a Northeastern student on the Gainsborough Street side of the Camden Footbridge near the Massachusetts Avenue T stop around 9 p.m. Tuesday evening. He “attempted to pull off her necklace and take her cell phone,” according to the message, but no items were taken. The victim sustained minor injuries, the NUPD said in the alert.
According to the email alert, the Boston Police Department has received similar reports involving necklaces and other chains, however, this is the first such instance reported on Northeastern’s Boston campus.
NUPD will increase patrols on campus in response to the incident, according to the alert. The department also encouraged students to take extra safety precautions, including removing distractions like headphones and avoiding walking alone.

Another person, this time not affiliated with Northeastern University, was the victim of an attempted unarmed robbery at about 12:55 p.m. Sept. 18, NUPD stated in a Timely Warning Notification at about 3:30 p.m.

The suspects fled from campus on a moped, according to NUPD.
NUPD will be continuing increased patrols in the surrounding area and working with the Boston Police Department to investigate the incident.
