NU offers roadtrip to ‘Cuse for football game
For diehard Husky fans who can’t wait for the football team’s first home game August 27, the athletics department is offering a road trip to Syracuse to watch Northeastern take on the Orange in the Carrier Dome September 20. The althetics department offers round-trip bus tickets, hotel accommodations and game tickets. Prior to kickoff, there will be a tailgate event where some members of the coaching staff will be present. Prices are $25 for a seat on the bus; $21 for one game ticket; and $21 for one hotel room that holds up to four people. Those looking for a bargain should book early because the first 54 to buy a bus ticket and hotel room receive free tickets to the game. Jack Grinold “recovering well” after heart attack
Associate Athletic Director Jack Grinold suffered a heart attack June 11, but is “recovering well and in good spirits,” and has returned home from the hospital, according to GoNU.com.
Former shotputter achieves Olympic “B” standard
Former women’s track team shotputter Zara Northover, who competed from 2002-08, accomplished Olympic “B” standard June 8, after winning the Island Games in New York. The Olympic “B” Standard is 17.20 meters, which Northover exceeded by throwing 17.56 meters. She will represent Jamaica in the Olympics and is the countries’ top-ranked shot putter currently.
Five men’s hockey players honored for academics
Continuing the streak of Northeastern athletes awarded for their achievements in the classroom, five members of the men’s hockey team were named to the Hockey East All-Academic team, two athletes, juniors Denis Chisholm and Rob Rassey, were named to the team for the third time. Sophomores Greg Costa and Dylan Wiwchar, and freshman Matt Quigley, were also named.
