OTTAWA, Canada – Former Northeastern goaltender Marc Robitaille is familiar with the Huskies, but one in particular caught his eye as Northeastern won the Gee Gee National Capital Tournament at the University of Ottawa.
“He’s got tremendous potential, he’s solid, and he moves well,” said Robitaille, now the goaltending coach at Ottawa of the freshmen goalie Tim Heneroty. “I like his style, it reminds me of myself.”
Heneroty made four tough saves in the final minutes of BU’s 7-2 win over the Huskies after Keni Gibson had been sent to the showers for slashing.
Robitaille, who was often criticized for his early departure from Huntington Ave., has since found a place he can finally call home.
Robitaille, now completing his bachelor’s degree at Ottawa, played two seasons with NU before signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization.
“I chose to leave (NU) because it was a personal decision and it was a very favorable opportunity. But eventually, I wasn’t enjoying hockey anymore and wanted to complete my education.”
Mike Ryan, who had the opportunity to sign with the Dallas Stars organization and miss his senior season at NU, didn’t seem satisfied with just one trophy in three-plus years. “There’s one more tournament left, and everyone knows what that is.”
