Northeastern University Division of Public Safety evacuated Snell Engineering and Egan Research Center Saturday night after someone heard a hissing noise from a lab in room 302, said interim university spokesperson Jim Chiavelli. Initial reports had put it at Egan Research Center.
NUPD called Boston Fire Department who treated the incident as a possible chemical spill and hazmat crews responded the scene, but Chiavelli said it was a compressed air leak.
No injuries or damage was reported but Forsyth Street on the Northeastern side was blocked off by caution tape for some time. Police and fire cleared the scene before 9 p.m.
