Northeastern men’s basketball (10-9, 2-4 CAA) narrowly fell to the College of Charleston Cougars (15-4, 5-1 CAA) 87-85 Jan. 18, marking its fourth conference and second consecutive loss.
The Huskies started off strong; Keeping up with the Cougars, Northeastern shot 54% from the field while Charleston shot 52% in the first half.
Northeastern was missing junior guard LA Pratt, who has put up 198 points for the team so far this season during his first year as a Husky after transferring from Elon University.
The game was back and forth as the lead changed five times — at nine points in the half, the score was tied.
The halftime ended 45-43 with a steady pull and push of the scoreboard.
The second half started strong for the Huskies, who tied the game at 45 less than a minute into the half. The Cougars were quick to come back, sinking a jumper in their next possession.
With seven seconds left to go in the game, the score was 87-85 with Charleston in the lead. Northeastern took a timeout to set a strategy, but it wasn’t able to follow through.
Junior guard Rashad King, the team’s leader in points, was given the ball in the last seconds of the game. King shot the ball but it only grazed the bottom of the net as the buzzer went off, signaling the end of the game.
Northeastern will have its first game at home since Jan. 4 against the Drexel University Dragons (10-8, 2-3 CAA) at 7 p.m. Jan. 23 at Matthews Arena.
