Residents of International Village, or IV, received an email Feb. 21 instructing them to cease removing doors from washing machines following several reported incidents of vandalism in the residence hall.
The email, which went out at 5 p.m. and was signed by three resident directors, asked residents of IV to attempt to stop “causing disruptions by reducing the number of washers for everyone and [increasing] the amount of labor for our partners in facilities.” The email called the behavior “unacceptable” and told students that if the destruction continued “[the residence directors] will be reporting them to the Northeastern University Police Department as acts of vandalism.”
It went on to say that students should not attempt to climb or scale the washing machines in an effort to use them.
“If you are having difficulty reaching the higher washing machines, please consider utilizing the lower washer machines or bring a step stool to the laundry room,” the email reads. “You are not to hoist yourself up using the doors of the lower machines to reach the top machines.”
This is not the only recent report of vandalism in Northeastern housing. Last spring, residents of LightView, which leases units to hundreds of Northeastern students, were warned to stop destruction of property and vandalism. Prior to that, residents of 60 Belvidere St. were fined for destruction of property in spring 2023.
Any students caught vandalizing may be subject to a code of student conduct violation.
