Northeastern men’s basketball (17-15, 9-9 CAA) lost to the Hampton University Pirates (17-15, 8-10 CAA) in the second round of the CAA championships on March 8.
The Huskies went in seeded at number seven, based on their league results, three places higher than the Pirates in No. 10.
The Huskies showed grit in the first half, building back from a slender deficit in the opening minutes to lead by eight points at the break, the score at 37-29. This was its biggest lead during the game.

The Huskies shot 56% in the first half, but showed signs of sloppiness with their shooting dropping by 20% to 36% shooting in the second half for a game total of 46%, just edging their season total of 45%.
Northeastern led in the opening minutes of the second half before the Pirates went on an 8-2 run to lead by 3 points at 47-44. The Huskies then retook the lead before a layup by Hampton’s joint-top-scorer of the night and top scorer of the season, graduate student guard Noah Farrakhan.
After this exchange the lead swapped hands twice, with the Huskies able to pull back before the Pirates cemented the victory with a 14-4 run. The Huskies were unable to dig into this lead, missing their last six shots in the final 40 seconds of the game.

Despite the loss, a few Huskies had standout performances. Junior guard Rashad King led the Huskies in scoring, with his third double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Junior forward Youri Fritz scored 10 points and made a season-high of 10 steals.
This was the final game of the Huskies’ season, ending it .531 overall, the highest win percentage since the 2018-2019 season.
