The Northeastern baseball team (12-6, 0-0 CAA) routed the Merrimack College Warriors (5-14-1, 4-2 Metro Atlantic) 10-0 March 18.
The Huskies got rolling early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. A hit-by-pitch, a walk and a balk put two runners in scoring position. Junior infielder Carmelo Musacchia earned an RBI on a sacrifice fly out and redshirt freshman Will Fosberg doubled to bring in a second run, 2-0.
In the bottom of the third inning, Northeastern put three more runs on the board. Musacchia reached first on a fielder’s choice before stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error by Merrimack’s junior catcher Frankie Ferrentino. Fosberg’s double to left center field scored Musacchia, 3-0. Graduate student infielder Alex Lane homered to center field to make the score 5-0.

Neither team scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Huskies earned four more runs with all nine batters stepping up to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning. After being walked, sophomore outfielder Ryan Gerety stole second and third base. Junior infielder Jack Goodman singled to bring in Gerety. Junior outfielder Cam Maldonado’s two-run home run put his team up 8-0. Musacchia singled, stole second and scored on a single by Fosberg. The inning ended with Northeastern up 9-0.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, freshman first baseman Eric Cha entered the game as a pinch hitter and was walked. Pinch hitter and freshman infielder Henry DiGiorgio singled to advance Cha to second. A third pinch hitter in freshman outfielder Carter Bentley allowed the Huskies to score the 10th and final run of the game.
Northeastern’s 10-run lead ended the game in the eighth inning on the run rule.
The Huskies will head down the road face off against the Boston College Eagles (8-9, 2-4 ACC) March 19.
