The Northeastern baseball team (47-9, 25-2 CAA) beat the University of North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks (34-23, 19-8 CAA) with a final score of 11-1 May 23 to advance to the CAA Championship game.
In the third inning, Northeastern got on the board first with a solo shot to center from sophomore right fielder Ryan Gerety for the 1-0 lead.
Northeastern added on another run in the fourth after three consecutive hits. Senior third baseman Jack Doyle knocked an RBI double down the right field line to drive in graduate student catcher Gregory Bozzo to bring the lead up to 2-0.
Another run came from a one-out solo homer to center field for graduate student first baseman Alex Lane in the sixth. Then, Doyle singled to left field and stole second to get into scoring position. An RBI double by Gerety increased the lead to 4-0 going into the seventh inning.
The Seahawks got their first run of the game in the seventh off of a solo homer, but the Huskies matched the score in the bottom of the eighth.
Junior designated hitter Matt Brinker started the rally with a double down the left field line. After, Bozzo hit a single to center, advancing Brinker to third. Doyle hit a sacrifice fly that scored Brinker to make the score 5-1. Then, Gerety walked, setting up junior center fielder Cam Maldonado to blow the game open. Maldonado smacked an RBI double to center, scoring two more runs for a Huskies lead of 7-1. Redshirt junior left fielder Harrison Feinberg then went deep for his second home run of the contest for the 9-1 lead. The Huskies were not done just yet as junior shortstop Jack Goodman hit a single to right field to keep the energy high. Up next was junior second baseman Carmelo Musacchia who got in on the fun, smashing a two-run homer to left field to end the game early with a final score of 11-1.
Graduate student left handed starting pitcher Jordan Gottesman struck out 12 batters in seven innings for the Huskies, landing a career high. He allowed just two hits and walked none. His 12 strikeouts are the most by a Northeastern pitcher since 2022.
The Huskies will play in their fourth CAA Baseball Championship game in just five years this Saturday against UNCW again at Patriots Point.
