The Northeastern baseball team (31-18, 20-7 CAA) swept the Stony Brook Seawolves (20-28, 12-15 CAA) May 8 to 10, clinching their spot in the CAA Tournament. The Huskies scored at least seven runs in each game and limited the Seawolves to seven runs on the weekend.
On Friday, Northeastern started hot in the bottom of the first inning. Freshman third baseman Tyler Harmony doubled down to left field before being brought home on a single from redshirt senior left fielder Harrison Feinberg.
In the next inning, senior second baseman Carmelo Musacchia singled to left field before advancing to second base on a single from sophomore shortstop Henry DiGiorgio. Musacchia then stole third base, his first of three on the day, clocking in at 35 steals so far this season. Sophomore right fielder Carter Bentley walked, advancing DiGiorgio to second and provoking a mound visit for Stony Brook.
After the visit concluded, Stony Brook’s senior southpaw Micah Worley walked Harmony and Musacchia scored the second run for the Huskies.
The Huskies continued their scoring streak in the third. Senior designated hitter Matt Brinker singled before redshirt freshman first baseman AJ Aschettino homered, bringing both around to score.
Musacchia then singled through the left side of the infield before stealing second base. DiGiorigo was walked then stole second, putting two runners in scoring position. On a wild pitch, DiGiorgio advanced to third and Mussachia scored, leaping over Stony Brook’s junior catcher Scott Gell.
In the bottom of the fourth, back-to-back home runs by Feinberg and junior center fielder Ryan Gerety added the sixth and seventh runs to the scoreboard.
Stony Brook finally added runs in the fifth. Sophomore left fielder Nick Zampieron singled before advancing to third on a single from freshman center fielder Nicholas Dromboski. Dromboski then stole second base, putting two runners in scoring position. Senior right fielder Chanz Doughty cashed them in with a single to tighten the gap 7-2.
The Seawolves kept the Huskies runless in the bottom of the fifth before building their lead in the next inning. Sophomore shortstop Mike Villani singled to center field, prompting the Huskies to change their pitcher.
Sophomore righty Andrew Rogovic replaced redshirt junior righthander Robbie O’Connor. Villani advanced on a wild pitch before reaching third on a groundout from junior designated hitter Matthew Jackson, before Villani raced home on the subsequent groundout from redshirt freshman third baseman Mike Cervoni.
In the bottom of the inning, Harmony reached first on a fielder’s choice, but advanced to second on a throwing error by Villani. After the play, the Seawolves intentionally walked Feinberg.
Stony Brook then swapped arms from junior righty Ty Panariello to senior lefty Aidan Colagrande. Gerety reached first on a fielder’s choice, and Harmony ran to third. Feinberg was caught at second base before Gerety followed up with a successful steal to sit at second.

After two scoreless innings, the Huskies piled in four runs in the bottom of the third. DiGiorgio and Harmony rapped two back-to-back singles before Feinberg singled to score DiGiorgio.
Gerety singled to cash in Harmony and put the Huskies up 2-0. A mound visit to Stony Brook’s redshirt senior right-hander John Rizzo wouldn’t be enough to hold off the onslaught, especially with Brinker stepping up to bat. The senior rapped a single to score Feinberg before Musacchia sealed the inning with a sac fly to center field, and Gerety scattered home, bringing the score to 4-0.
Gerety picked up where he left off at the top of the fifth inning, crushing a solo homer just over the fence to add another for the Huskies, 5-0. Northeastern went on to stack seven runs and jump to a 12-0 lead by the end of the fifth. The Huskies collected 17 hits on the day, and it seemed like every big bat came out to play.
After Rizzo walked freshman second baseman Charlie Criscola, the Seawolves swapped him for senior righty Matthew Canizares. Immediately, Canizares walked Musacchia to load the bases before Fosberg reached first on a fielder’s choice.
In the process, Brinker plated a run from third, and Criscola scored from second on an error by junior first baseman Chris Carson to put the Huskies up 7-0. Harmony doubled to score Fosberg before Gerety once again clutched up, this time with a two-RBI single to score DiGiorgio and Harmony and make it 10-0.
Another pitching change for the Seawolves saw freshman right-hander Luca Mannino take the mound, but Brinker laid in wait. The power hitter singled to left field to drive in Feinberg and Gerety, and the trio sealed the 12-0 inning.
Feinberg put a bow on the win in the bottom of the sixth, unloading the bases after cracking a double far out to left center and cementing the 15-0 win for the Huskies.

May 10’s game was Northeastern’s lowest scoring, despite still sending seven runners across the plate. After back-to-back singles to lead off the inning for Stony Brook, a balk scored a run and put the Seawolves up 1-0.
The lead didn’t last long as silly mistakes for Stony Brook sent Northeastern runners home. After a Feinberg walk, Gerety reached base on catcher’s interference before both advanced on a balk. A throwing error allowed Feinberg to score before an Aschettino single sent Gerety home and a passed ball scored Brinker to put Northeastern up 3-1.
Stony Brook’s Jackson led off with a single and stole second before a single knocked him in and cut Northeastern’s lead down to one.

Northeastern was put in early danger in the top of the third as the Seawolves led off with a homerun and a triple, but a pitching change and three consecutive outs limited the damage to two runs. Those runs would be Stony Brook’s last.
The bats went quiet until the bottom of the fifth, when an RBI single for DiGiorgio increased Northeastern’s lead to 6-4.
The Huskies picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. After Feinberg was hit by a pitch, stole second and advanced to third on a Gerety single, a sacrifice fly by Aschettino sent Feinberg home for a 7-4 scoreboard.
