The Northeastern baseball team (38-20, 22-8 CAA) secured its second consecutive CAA championship title, punching a ticket to the 2026 College World Series.
As the No. 2 conference seed, the Huskies earned a first-round bye and faced off against the No. 5 Hofstra University Pride (22-29, 14-16 CAA) May 21, who were coming off of a 13-0 victory over the College of Charleston Cougars.
The Pride had complete control of the game, winning 6-0. Hofstra struck early, putting three runs across the plate in the top of the first inning and never looked back from there. Northeastern managed just two hits through all nine innings.
In the elimination game against the No. 6 University of North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks (30-28, 16-14 CAA) May 22, the tide changed for the Huskies. Redshirt senior left fielder Harrison Feinberg notched his 16th home run of the season in a 7-3 win for his team, allowing them to successfully avoid getting knocked out of the tournament.
Northeastern faced off against Hofstra again May 23, this time coming away with a narrow 5-4 victory. Senior right-hander Ryan Griffin took the mound for the Huskies, allowing one hit and three runs in his 5.1 inning performance to earn the win.
Following the win against Hofstra, Northeastern needed to take both games against the No. 1 Campbell University Camels (41-17, 26-4 CAA) to capture the tournament.
The Huskies claimed the first game over the Camels, 7-4 May 23. Neither team scored until the top of the fifth inning when redshirt sophomore catcher Will Fosberg hit a two-run homer to claim the lead for Northeastern. From there, Husky batters brought in five runs in the top of the sixth inning to seal the team’s win and force another game.
In the winners-take-all Game 11, redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Robbie O’Connor made his second appearance of the tournament, allowing two runs and six hits while striking out two batters in five innings of work.
Campbell’s junior center fielder Mike Murphy started off scoring at the top of the fifth inning with a solo shot to right field. A hit-by-pitch and a stolen base by redshirt junior right fielder Lukas Schramm put a runner in scoring position before redshirt senior third baseman Jonah Oster singled to put his team up 2-0.
Northeastern got one back in the bottom of the fifth inning on a hit batter, a single, a walk and fielder’s choice.
The Huskies evened the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Freshman second baseman Charlie Criscola walked to lead off the inning before advancing to third on a single by Fosberg. Freshman third baseman Tyler Harmony singled to score Criscola.
Everything went right for the defending champions in the ninth inning. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Andrew Rogovic put together a stellar inning, striking out two batters in a three-up, three-down showing. Offensively, Harmony led off with a double to left field before, in an act of heroics, junior center fielder Ryan Gerety hit a walk-off single to right field, sending Harmony from second to home to earn the win.
Northeastern claimed a second consecutive CAA Tournament win and its third overall. With the tournament win, the team earned a spot in the Lawrence Regional of the College World Series. This marks the first back-to-back NCAA tournament appearance in program history.
The Huskies will face off against the No. 1 University of Kansas Jayhawks (42-16, 22-8 Big 12) at 12 p.m. tomorrow.
