For the 12th consecutive year, Northeastern women’s crew took the CAA championship title May 16.
The team swept all four races on Saturday morning in Pennsauken, N.J., earning 42 points over the course of the regatta. The University of Connecticut took second, scoring 36 points, followed by Drexel University (28), Villanova University (25), University of California San Diego (16), University of Albany (9) and Monmouth University (4).
The team swept for the sixth time in program history. The 3V8, stroked by freshman Piper Mullin, started off the day by taking the win with a time of 6:46.924, 11 seconds ahead of the second-place boat. The 1V4 was stroked by freshman Katie Lawhon and finished in a time of 7:20.309, just three seconds ahead of second-place UConn.
In the 2V8, stroked by freshman Evie Gaylord, the Huskies once again took the first-place finish by a wide margin, finishing in 6:32.594, 10 seconds ahead of UConn. In the 1V8, the team, stroked by junior Ava Sjogren, took the win in a time of 6:28.229.
With this win, the team clinched an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament May 29-31 in Gainesville, GA.
