Northeastern men’s and women’s rowing teams opened up the spring season March 27 and 28 after last year’s strong season, which culminated in the women’s team taking the conference title.
The men’s team traveled to Sarasota Fla., March 27 and 28. The team went back and forth with Yale University and Brown University in a tough battle all weekend.
On Friday, the Huskies started off with a bang, taking second place overall in both the first (5:42.04) and second (5:50.22) varsity races and taking first (5:55.81) in the third varsity. In its strongest showing of the day, Northeastern finished first to take the Dreissigacker Cup for the 26th time in program history and the first time since 2023.
The team finished fourth in the Benderson Cup and took fifth (5:56.05) in the first varsity race against top teams in the country on Saturday. They raced the University of Washington, Harvard University, Brown University, Stanford University and Yale. The second varsity team took fourth (5:56.73), and the third varsity team took third (6:07.69).

On the women’s side, the team started the season off at the Doc Hosea Invite, hosted by the Huskies. In the first varsity eight, Northeastern took third (6:50.00), more than 25 seconds behind second place Syracuse University (6:24.60) and first place University of Virginia (6:21.1). In the second varsity eight, Northeastern took third (6:58.90) again, this time by a smaller margin of just 20 seconds behind Virginia (6:38.60) and Syracuse (6:36.10).
In the first varsity four, Northeastern took third (8:02.90) and again finished in third in the second varsity four (8:08.00). In the 3V8 and 4V8, Northeastern once again snagged third place.
Both teams will be back in action April 4 at the Arlett Cup hosted by Boston University on the Charles River.
