Northeastern women’s crew team delivered a competitive showing April 11 at Overpeck County Park in Ridgefield, N.J. facing Columbia University and the University of Rhode Island in challenging conditions with a steady headwind and choppy water.
The Huskies were led by standout performances from the second varsity boat, both of which secured victories. The 2V8, stroked by freshman Evie Gaylord, took first in a time of 7:48.65, defeating both Columbia and Rhode Island. The 2V4 followed suit as junior Mia Bonfiglio stroked the boat to claim first over Columbia in a time of 8:31.14, continuing to show Northeastern’s strength and depth.
In the 1V8, Northeastern finished in a solid 7:36.25 to take second, ahead of Rhode Island but behind the fast Columbia boat by 16 seconds. The 3V8 also earned a second-place finish, crossing in 7:48.58 in a tight race. The 1V4 rounded out the day for the Huskies with another second-place finish in 9:10.47.
Despite difficult racing conditions, including whitecaps and strong winds, the Huskies had a strong performance in all five races. Its ability to secure two wins and multiple runner-up finishes highlights speed and depth throughout the team.
Northeastern will look to build on this momentum April 18 when they travel to Fairlee, Vt., for the Lake Morey Regatta.
