The end of another wonderful Homecoming Weekend was topped with a visit from my father.
Of course one of the best parts of his visits is the food. Delicious food and milkshakes from Cabot’s in Newton are the usual, with the quality milkshakes being the best part by far since they are impossible to find within Boston. He left a nice food care-package for me too, ensuring that I would have even more things to stuff my face with.
Even after the care-package is gone there is the great smorgasbord of food options in and around Northeastern. Chicken Lou’s tasty fries, Wendy’s chicken sandwiches, Chartwells soft cookies, the glorious burritos of Boloco and the delectable subs of Wollastons are just a few great things around campus to fill you up. All these options, combined with the food from a parent’s visit, it’s no wonder the freshman 15 still happens every year.
With the new video screen bikes and cable machines, at the Marino Center it is definitely the No. 1 place to go to combat the extra pounds added by each late night slice of pizza from Cappy’s. But in all my years at Northeastern, I have discovered a secret few are aware of. It is not a secret you can take notes on in class, nor one that you can pick up while on co-op.
Move off campus. Why, you might ask? How does this secret benefit you? It’s a guaranteed way to burn off calories. Not only is a nice morning walk to class a great way to wake yourself up but it also gives you a chance to walk off the University House of Pizza mozzarella sticks you downed the night before. It is a nice scenic Boston walk that helps keep you in shape so you can feel guilt-free the next time you go for that late-night snack.
