Peter Millin, a resident in Northeastern’s pharmacy program, died Sunday at Somerville Hospital from complications with diabetes. He was 24.
Known for his love of sports and outgoing personality, family and friends remember Mr. Millin as a happy person, who loved spending time with his family and friends.
He was friendly and personable, said Mr. Millin’s stepfather, Andrew Saitas.
“He loved the Bruins, the Red Sox and he was also a fan of the Indianapolis Colts football team,” he said. “He also enjoyed Northeastern very much.”
Mr. Millin was born Dec. 15, 1983 in Norwood, and lived in North Attleboro during his adolescence.
Mr. Millin graduated from North Attleboro High School in 2002, and graduated from Northeastern with a degree of doctor of pharmacy last May.
Mr. Millin had been working as a resident at Brigham and Women’s Hospital since graduating as part of Northeastern’s pharmacy program.
Jason Andree, a senior pharmacy student, said he met Mr. Millin during their freshman year when they both lived on the Bouv’eacute; College of Health Sciences Living Learning Community floor in Stetson West. Andree said he had been living with Mr. Millin since July.
Mr. Millin worked hard at his job at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Andree said.
“He was very friendly and he was always willing to go the extra mile to make a friend happy,” Andree said. “He was a good all-around kid.”
Andree said he and Mr. Millin, along with 11 other men, brought the Phi Delta Chi fraternity to Northeastern.
“It was something he was immensely proud of,” Andree said. “Post-graduation he was still active in the fraternity. He wanted to do everything he could to keep the organization strong.”
Mr. Millin was unsure of his post-residency plans, but was considering working at a smaller hospital in the suburbs, possibly in Somerville, to work toward a management position, Andree said.
Laura Flynn, a senior toxicology student who knew Mr. Millin through her boyfriend, said he was fun to be around.
“He took jokes really well,” Flynn said. “You could joke around with him and he wouldn’t get offended.”
Mr. Millin would always be happy to go outside and play a game of Wiffle ball or go to a Red Sox game to get away from his schoolwork, said Brian DesRosiers, one of Mr. Millin’s classmates who graduated with him in May.
“He was a great guy personality-wise,” DesRosiers said. “He was the type of friend you could depend on. He never judged people.”
DesRosiers said Mr. Millin was the oldest of three brothers, and he always thought about his younger brothers and made sure they were making the right decisions. Mr. Millin’s brother, Ryan, is currently an undergraduate student at Northeastern.
Mr. Millin was the son of Peter Millin, who passed away in 1997. In addition to his stepfather, Mr. Millin leaves his mother, Carol Saitas, of Plainville; brothers Christopher, Ryan and Daniel, all of Plainville; and his grandparents, Frederick “Russ” and Mary of Norwood and Maureen Dalton of Westwood.
Services will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. from the Sperry ‘ McHoul Funeral Home. Mass will be said at St. Mary’s Church in North Attleboro at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Norwood.
