Despite a hot 3-1 start to the season, the men’s basketball team dropped two tough games during the Thanksgiving break.
Last Tuesday, the Huskies lost an offensive showcase to rival Boston University, 83-75.
Both teams started out firing on all cylinders posting impressive shooting numbers. But, BU guard Corey Lowe had the hottest hand on the floor in the first half as he recorded 23 points in that half alone. The Huskies were able to overcome Lowe’s performance and a buzzer-beater from junior guard Matt Janning gave NU a 40-39 lead at the half.
As the second half went on, the Huskies were unable to keep up with the Terriers as Lowe turned the offense over to forward Jake O’Brien, who scored all 21 of his points in the second half. Northeastern as a team shot 51 percent from the floor but the three ball from BU proved to be the difference as the Terriers went 15-of-31 from behind the arc.
Saturday, the Huskies traveled to Tampa, Fla., to take on the South Florida Bulls. The Huskies were never able to get into an offensive rhythm. They trailed 22-11 at the half and ultimately were on the short end of a 55-37 decision.
Northeastern was 4-of-29 from the floor in the first half and 13-of-64 for the game.
Junior forward Manny Adako lead NU with 10 points.
Janning was held to just three points as his double-digit scoring streak came to an end at an impressive 24 straight games.
