According to the Mayor’s Food Court web site, Boston Inspectional Services recently cleared University House of Pizza on Huntington Avenue of nearly all of the health code violations found on previous visits.
Of the 17 violations recorded on the City of Boston web site as of a February 19 visit, only two remained after the inspectors returned May 8.
“[The inspectors] give you the chance to correct [the violations], but it’s not like something’s wrong with your place,” said Tina Savvidis, co-owner of UHOP.
While the restaurant was cleared of most violations, it still has not complied with codes 14-1 and 36-1, pertaining to the cleanliness of food contact surfaces and floors respectively.
The News previously reported that UHOP’s other violations included the use of unclean towels, evidence of rodents and insects in the establishment, dirty mops and brooms, food handlers smoking while preparing food, raw food stored in the display area with other food, food not being properly washed and meat not being stored at a cold enough temperature nor cooked at a high enough temperature.
“I keep my place clean all the time,” Savvidis said. “Nobody gets sick from my place. No one smokes back here, no one.”
Patrons agree.
Alex O’Donnell, a sophomore computer animation major, said that he has never had a problem with the pizza restaurant.
“I eat lunch here all the time,” he said.
Juan Sanchez, a 39-year-old accountant and frequent UHOP customer, agreed.
“Food’s good, place is clean, pizza’s excellent,” Sanchez said.
The May 8 visit was a reinspection from May 1, only one week before, when the restaurant was found to be in violation of 13 codes, two marked critical and one marked high risk.
In a reinspection of the February 19 visit on March 5, only three violations were cited.
