There is absolutely nothing worse then getting off the train only to see your fate lying in front of you. Blankets of snow. And the goal? A large brown building more than five blocks away. So you trudge, and while you do, you might have to convince yourself just why co-op is best during the winter-spring rotation. It’s not easy, but you have to do it.
Okay let’s do the obvious first. Holiday time. In the winter-spring rotation, you avoid missing either your Thanksgiving or Christmas vacation. And yes, there are people required to work on those days. (Remember: The newspaper comes out everyday.) Now, I know, you miss spring break. Boo-hoo. I’ll take presents and turkey over drunk party girls and horny boys in Cancun any day.
Another day-off perk? No classes on Fridays in the summer! Sure, you might have to sit in the sweltering heat of Hurtig Hall willing yourself not to pass out, but you can hit the beach early while your roommates work the 9 to 5.
Speaking purely on this year, the winter-spring rotation allows you to skip the dreaded winter-quarter which is routinely voted your least favorite.
Now, the winter quarter has been all but eliminated as we speak, but tell me you are not drooling at the possibility of telling your summer co-opers about those lovely teeny-meeny-mesters that as of next year will be the norm! (What are those anyways?)
In conclusion, let’s recap. Better vacations, beach time, and teeny-mini-mesters. Sounds convincing to me! Now what is all this $’#@ snow! Will it ever end!!!!
