Now that I’m graduating in June, and I can reflect on the last five years, there is someone special that deserves a lot of credit for keeping me focused. That person is Courtney Metzger.
For anyone who does not know, Courtney died in a car crash in Connecticut in December a few years ago. Her death saddened everyone that knew her, and the NU community mourned her passing. Courtney was a friend of mine that I did know as well as some of my friends, but she taught me something that no other person has.
Everyone should make the best out of every day and go at everything 98 percent.
I first met her when I was covering a women’s soccer game for The News freshman year. She was a fellow freshman, and we got into a conversation. She asked me to come to her next home game, and I would routinely watch her play. We also became buddies at the gym as I’d see her constantly on the second floor treadmills as I’d walk up the stairs.
I would talk to her about a lot of things, but she always said to not be afraid of anything and if I wanted to do something that I should simply do it. It was advice that I have followed, but her passing made me think about what is important in life. I have tried to live each day to the fullest ever since, never give bad efforts, and always be truthful to myself.
Courtney would be graduating with me this year, and, even though it has been a few years, I think of her a lot. Courtney Metzger left something with me that will continue for the rest of my life, and I wish I could thank her for the advice that she gave. All of this must all sound clich
