The combination of loud music, reclining chairs and three-dimensional light streams give way to a journey through a musical and visual experience. All of this can be found at the Museum of Science which offers educational and enjoyable entertainment for all ages, but specifically for college students. Five different laser shows target all types of musical tastes. Shows such as Laser Mania offer music from Sting, Celine Dion and Ricky Martin. Laser X consists of artists like the Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins and Rage Against the Machine. Featured artists such as Pink Floyd, U2 and Led Zeppelin all have their own individual shows. As the songs pound through the speakers, the viewer’s attention is drawn to the bright lights and intricate designs. Raindrops, dancing women, crows and angels jump out of the screen demanding your attention. The planetarium’s global formation provides a false sense of movement that keeps viewer engergizd and focused. “Incredible,” said Joanna Pfister, a sophomore sociology major, summing up the Led Zeppelin show. “I was smiling the entire time because it was such a unique experience,” said Hannah Mellman, a sophomore political science major. “I would recommend the laser shows to anyone looking for an unusually creative and fun alternative to music and entertainment.” Both Pfister and Mellman said they had heard about the shows from word of mouth, and would certainly be returning to enjoy more concerts. Will Santana, an employee at the museum, encouraged crowds to feel comfortable and participate in the performances. “The laser shows are the only part of the museum that allows the audiences to be loud and energetic. We promote people to sing along and have fun with the shows,” Santana said. The blend of music and lasers provides a creative musical experience that is affordable for a college student’s budget. Each show is $5 and is one hour long. For more information on Laser Mania and other events at the Museum of Science visit their Web site at mos.org.
